iPhone video size calculator
Enter how long the video is and how it was recorded. The calculator estimates its size on the iPhone, the size of a smaller copy at each of ClipLeve’s three options, and whether it fits a limit such as Gmail’s 25 MB, WhatsApp’s 64 MB or Discord’s 20 MB. It uses the same model the ClipLeve app uses before it processes anything.
How is the estimate made?
The original’s size comes from what iOS lists in Settings › Camera › Record Video with High Efficiency: 40 MB a minute at 720p and 30 fps, 60 MB at 1080p and 30 fps, 90 MB at 1080p and 60 fps, 135 MB at 4K and 24 fps, 170 MB at 4K and 30 fps, and 400 MB at 4K and 60 fps.
Each ClipLeve size has a target bit rate: 5 Mb/s for 1080p at 30 fps, scaled by the number of pixels and the frame rate, 15% more for HDR, and 1.4× for Nearly identical or 0.9× for Much smaller. Nearly identical keeps up to 4K, Balanced up to 1080p and Much smaller up to 720p. No option spends more than 85%, 70% or 60% of the original’s own bit rate.
For a size limit, ClipLeve keeps a 10% margin and picks the highest of 1080p, 720p, 540p or 360p whose bit rate still fits, with the audio copied at its own rate.
These are estimates. The real size depends on what is in the video: fast motion and fine detail take more space than a still scene. The app measures a preview of your actual video before it starts.
