What should you check before choosing one?
- The privacy label, at the bottom of the App Store page. “Data Used to Track You” means the developer says data is used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- Weekly plans. Several apps sell weekly subscriptions, which add up fast if you forget to cancel.
- What happens to the original. Some apps offer to delete it; look for a copy you can compare first and an original that goes to Recently Deleted, not one removed without asking.
- Resolution and HDR. Many apps reach a small size by lowering the resolution. None of the listings we read mentions HDR.
- “No quality loss” claims. Most of these apps make one. A smaller file always gives up some information; a preview on your own video tells you more than the claim.
